We finished the garage today, and we started the kitchen. Laurie, Jon, and I were all a bit stunned with the sheer number of dishes. I stopped counting at 61 sets, and I'm pretty sure there were easily over 80 sets (meaning four or more matching dishes). We worked with Mom to have her pick her favorites, and we took one of each of those sets so we can use them to decorate their new place. She seemed happy with the idea the numerous times we reminded her about that plan. :)
Also, just so everyone knows, Mom is consistent with the things that she loves. She forgets what we are doing every few minutes, and we have to explain again. However, if she chose a specific plate or cup, she often forgets and then chooses that same item the next time we talk about it. This makes me feel like the items she is choosing to take are really the ones that mean the most to her. Dad is happy if she is happy, so ... we are making progress.
Please feel free to share this blog with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They are also welcome to choose items. Just remember that these items will need to be retrieved soon, so that needs to be achievable somehow.
BOX #1
| These are Bohemian crystal. There is a pattern etched in each glass and in the pitcher. |
| Salt and pepper shakers |
| The blue birds are NOT salt and pepper shakers. Neither is the swan for that matter. |
| This is a miniature tea set. |
| Laurie has these, but she is willing to share if anyone needs/wants some. |
| This is not in a box currently. It's sitting on a shelf in the garage. |
| Just to give you an idea of the number of plates. There were more sets on the floor, on the kitchen counter, and on the chairs. |
BOX #2
| I think there is only one of these. |
| These are saucer size. |
BOX #3
| I believe this is a set of 12 with plates, bowls, saucers, and mugs. |
BOX #4
BOX #5
| I think there is only one of these ... although there may be two. |
BOX #6
BOX #7
| These are smaller plates. |
| I think these are smaller plates too, but there was another set that looks similar to this and I might be confusing the two. |
| These are saucer size, and I believe there are four in each set. |
| There are three of these, and they are saucer size. |
BOX #8
| This set has dinner plates and smaller plates. |
BOX #9
BOX #10
| I think there might only be three of these. |
| There are two of these. The other one has orange on the outside (where the green is on this one), and I'm guessing other colors and veggies on the picture. |
BOXES #11 & 12 (I forgot to take a picture to let me know the break between boxes.)
| There aren't many of these, but I don't remember the exact number. |
| These are smaller plates. |
| There are only a couple of these plates. |
| I think there are three of these. |
| There is only one of these. |
| These are plastic. |
BOX #13

BOX #14
BOX #15 (These are all large serving platters.)
| This has "Merry Christmas" etched in it. |
| I think there are three of these. |
BOX #16
| This set has bowls too (and I think it's a set of 12?). |
| There may only be one of these ... |
BOXES #17 & 18 (I forgot again.)
| These are the saucers that go with the plates in the previous picture. |
| There are two of these. |
| There are four of these. |
| There are two of these. |
| This set (for 12 I think???) has dinner plates, saucers, and bowls. |
I tried my best to remember how many plates there were with each set, but ... my brain didn't retain all of the numbers (and some of them look very similar to me). If I didn't specify, odds are the sets have four or eight. Please understand when I say I am unwilling to verify how many plates are in each set. It took long enough to pack them all. I do not wish to unpack them to count plates.
That's it for today. Wish us luck tomorrow.
