Pantry, more kitchen, and laundry room

Significantly less pictures today ... Mom is tired, and the more tired Mom gets, the harder it is for her to make decisions or remember details.  She also had a rough day emotionally.  In my short time as part of your family, I have come to learn that Mom lives for her kids and Dad lives for Mom.  Because Mom feels so strongly that things are not settled for Scott, she has a difficult time some/most days accepting this move.  Today was one of those days.  She easily flowed from being excited at the prospect of not having to worry about cooking/doing dishes to refusing to move anywhere unless Scott goes with them.  I am discovering that it can be difficult to sort a lifetime of personal possessions when the emotional fluctuation is that dramatic.  Tomorrow, I get to spend more time with Dad (I'm heading into his office ... I was hoping to get there today, but I helped with paperwork for Spring Gardens instead), so we will see how that goes.  I also am not certain I will be able to finish all that needs done in the time I have available.  The facility recommends residents bring 7-9 changes of clothes, and it took probably a half hour (maybe longer) for Laurie to get Mom to pick out 15 pairs of socks (and then we found another bin of them).  I'm not sure there is enough time left in my life to make it through the clothing in their closet.  :)

Plastic cups ... there are eight clear big cups, four clear small cups.  I will also report that Mom threw away half of those straws in the background (you can't see a giant vase full of them) without any prodding from me.  She may regret it tomorrow, but I was pretty proud of her.

Wheat grinder (I do not know if it also cracks wheat.  It took me a second to figure out this was a wheat grinder.  :) )

I was going to throw the rock salt away, but I decided to leave it just in case it is needed before they move.  I don't know why it would be needed, but it's not hurting anything until then.

Another day, more stuff

Work continued today.  I am afraid I might be pushing Mom too hard.  I try to get her to sit down as much as possible, but she doesn't like to sit if I am standing and I can't sort through the items sitting down.  I'm trying to be aware of her needs, and we took more breaks today than yesterday or the day before.  We will see how she does moving forward. Today, we focused on cleaning off the kitchen counters, the dining room, a bit of the living room, and the closet under the stairs.  I thought we had done pretty well sorting out Christmas (we had one "holiday" box full of decorations in the garage).  Turns out, Mom had more Christmas decorations in the closet under the stairs.  We are up to three Christmas totes now ... and your mom has a love affair with Santa.  Every time you pull out a Santa picture or doll or statue, etc., Mom says something like, "Isn't he handsome!".  :)  I'm guessing this is not news to any of you, and I'm also...

Garage ... round 1

As you all know, Mom and Dad are moving.  I came down to help for the week, sorting through their things and packing up items to get their house ready to sell.  We started with the garage today, and, with only one breakdown from Mom (maybe one and a half), Mom has identified the items she wants to keep.  My plan is to take pictures of all of the things she is not keeping and to post those items on this blog.  If you want the item, please let me know as soon as possible (within 24 hours would be best).  You can email (dlmonty@gmail.com), text (ask Andy for my number), comment on the blog, or you can let Andy know.  You will need to figure out how to get the item(s) to you, but ... this will help me know what I can put in a box to be donated or sold.  As you can imagine, this is tough on Mom and Dad (and Scott), and I am doing my best to assure Mom as we go.  She could use lots of love, though, to help her know all will be well.  I'm also going...

The last of it ... at least for now

My apologies for not posting last night.  I was on a shuttle home from St. George and didn't get home until late.  While the original plan was for me to remain in St. George until Saturday with Andy coming down on Friday to help/pick me up, those plans changed.  As Susie mentioned in an email today, Dad and Mom have decided not to move right now.  They won't move forward with selling the house until things are settled with Scott.  Therefore, I finished what I could (and had already started), and then I came home to be with my little family and get back to my job.  I also might choose to take a nap or two.  :)  However, just so everything is documented ... BOX #24 (still) These were apparently your Papa's.  It still has cologne in it.  Dad has no sentimental attachment to it, and Mom doesn't remember it ... so in the box it went.
